Longitudinal electromagnetic waves with extremely short wavelength

چکیده

Electromagnetic waves in vacuum and most materials have transverse polarization. Longitudinal electromagnetic with electric field parallel to wave vector are very rare appear under special conditions a limited class of media, for example plasma. In this work, we study the dispersion properties an easy-to-manufacture metamaterial consisting two three-dimensional cubic lattices connected metallic wires inserted one into another, also known as interlaced wire medium. It is shown that supports longitudinal at extremely wide frequency band from low frequencies up Bragg resonances structure. The feature unprecedentedly short wavelengths comparable period material. revealed effects highlight spatially dispersive response medium provide route toward generating fields strong spatial variation.

Massively Sub-wavelength Guiding of Electromagnetic Waves

Recently a new form of ultra-thin flexible waveguide consisting of a conducting comb-like structure with a thickness of the order of 1/600(th) of the operating wavelength was presented. However, whilst the thickness of the guide was massively sub-wavelength, the remaining dimensions (the height and period of the comb) were much longer. In this paper we propose, and experimentally verify, that a...

Inhibition of Salmonella typhi growth using extremely low frequency electromagnetic (ELF-EM) waves at resonance frequency.

AIMS Typhoid is a serious disease difficult to be treated with conventional drugs. The aim of this study was to demonstrate a new method for the control of Salmonella typhi growth, through the interference with the bioelectric signals generated from the microbe during cell division by extremely low frequency electromagnetic waves (ELF-EMW-ELF-EM) at resonance frequency. METHODS AND RESULTS Is...

Rigorous analysis of extremely asymmetrical scattering of electromagnetic waves in slanted periodic gratings

Extremely asymmetrical scattering (EAS) is a new type of Bragg scattering in thick, slanted, periodic gratings. It is realised when the scattered wave propagates parallel to the front boundary of the grating. Its most important feature is the strong resonant increase in the scattered wave amplitude compared to the amplitude of the incident wave: the smaller the grating amplitude, the larger the...

Electromagnetic Waves in Media with Ferromagnetic Losses

The operation of a wide variety of applications in today’s modern society are heavily dependent on the magnetic properties of ferromagnetic materials and their interaction with electromagnetic fields. The understanding of these interactions and the associated loss mechanisms is therefore crucial for the improvement and future development of such applications. This thesis is concerned with elect...

Imaging with Electromagnetic Waves in Terminating Waveguides

Abstract. We study an inverse scattering problem for Maxwell’s equations in terminating waveguides, where localized reflectors are to be imaged using a remote array of sensors. The array probes the waveguide with waves and measures the scattered returns. The mathematical formulation of the inverse scattering problem is based on the electromagnetic Lippmann-Schwinger integral equation and an exp...
